Dr. Erin Tanner, pelvic health and orthopedic physical therapist in Kettering, Ohio

Meet Dr. Erin

Owner & Founder of Breakthrough Physical Therapy | Whole-Body, Pelvic Health Care

Dr. Erin Tanner is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who believes the human body is beautifully designed and that understanding that design is key to meaningful healing.

Her work is rooted in curiosity, education, and a deep respect for the complexity of the human body. The more she learns, the more convinced she becomes that pain and dysfunction are not random — and that when we take the time to look at the whole picture, the body often tells us exactly what it needs.

Erin is a wife, mother of two sweet boys, and has enjoyed exercise and movement for as long as she can remember. Her passion for pelvic health began before becoming a mother, but was certainly amplified after a birth experience that didn't go quite as she hoped.

She is passionate about helping women prepare for childbirth, recover postpartum, heal from any condition of pain, and eliminate symptoms that might cause shame/embarrassment so that ultimately people can return to living the way they want to.

This work is unique and deeply personal. She considers herself incredibly lucky to support people in this tender way. It is a true joy and honor for her to step into someone’s story and help restore function so they can return to living fully.

Education & Clinical Background

Dr. Erin’s foundation as a clinician began with a broad, whole-body lens.

  • Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Movement Science
    University of Cincinnati

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
    Southwest Baptist University

She began her career as a general orthopedic physical therapist, developing a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal system before pursuing advanced pelvic health training.

This background continues to shape how she treats every patient — not as a collection of parts, but as a connected, integrated system.

A Whole-Body Lens, From the Very Beginning

Before specializing in pelvic health, Dr. Erin gained experience treating a wide range of orthopedic conditions. She considers herself fortunate to have discovered pelvic health early in her career, allowing her to build on a strong orthopedic foundation while developing advanced expertise in the low back, hips, pelvis, and core.

Pelvic health care, in her view, cannot be separated from how the rest of the body functions. Gaining advanced pelvic health education didn’t narrow her focus — it expanded it.

In fact, it allowed her to treat conditions like back pain, hip pain, and chronic tension more effectively and efficiently, because she could finally see how the pelvic floor fit into the larger picture.

She looks at the body from toes to head, always asking:

  • How are systems working together?

  • Where is the true source of symptoms?

  • What is the body asking for?

Her goal is never to mask symptoms, but to help patients understand why something is happening and how to change it.

Why Pelvic Health?

Dr. Erin’s path into pelvic health was shaped by people, not trends.

While working as a general physical therapist, she had the opportunity to work alongside an exceptional pelvic health PT. What stood out immediately was the way women’s concerns, often brushed off elsewhere, were taken seriously and treated with care.

She saw firsthand that:

  • bladder leaks after childbirth are not normal

  • pain with bowel movements or chronic constipation is not normal

  • feeling trapped by bathroom urgency is not normal

  • pain with intimacy is not normal

And most importantly, these things are treatable.

Hearing patient success stories and witnessing real change made it clear to her that this was where she wanted to serve. These conditions are common, but that doesn’t mean they should be accepted as “just part of life.”

Pelvic health care requires trust, honesty, and dignity, and her goal has always been to help restore confidence where it’s been lost.

This clinic is a safe place to talk about the things that are often uncomfortable to say out loud, because naming them is the first step toward changing them.

A Note from Dr. Erin

Many of the people I work with come to physical therapy feeling frustrated, discouraged, or unsure of where to turn next.

My goal is to provide more than symptom relief. I want every patient to feel heard, understood, and empowered with a plan that makes sense for their unique situation.

I believe healing begins with listening, looking at the whole picture, and working together to uncover the root causes of pain and dysfunction, not simply managing the symptoms.

The heart behind Breakthrough Physical Therapy is Hope in Motion: the belief that meaningful progress is possible and that you deserve to move through life with greater confidence, comfort, and freedom.

Wherever you're starting from, I want you to know that there is hope, and you don't have to navigate it alone.
